Where to Go / What to Do in Chetumal

MUSEUM OF MAYAN CULTURE
This museum has an excellent permanent and interactive exhibition of the ancient Mayan civilization that inhabited the territory of the Yucateca peninsula. A representation of actual size of the Mayan village is exhibited on the patio of this interesting museum. Other plastic works and graphics of local and national artists can be found in its rooms.

ZONA FRANCA CON BELICE
Chetumal is part of the border of Mexico with the neighboring Central American country of Belize. In the ¨zona franca¨ located on the first bridge of Hondo River, here you will find hundreds of stores that offer a wide variety of products from Belize and imports from other countries.

Do not forget that if you wish to cross south of the border, you must go by way of bus, for cars are not permitted to pass.

LAGUNA DE BACALAR
The attraction of this lake is in the seven colors found in these crystal waters. Located just 38km from the capital of Quintana Roo, this lake has soft white sands and semi shallow waters. On the side, the ¨Cenote Azul¨ (blue creek) is a great opportunity for scuba divers who can submerge themselves in deep waters of deep blue color tones. Exploring its caves, labyrinths and rock formations is one of the most satisfying experiences for aquatic sport fanatics.

BEACHES
The beaches that surround the bay of Chetumal are the beaches of Punta Estrella and Dos Mulas, where, on a weekend at sunset you will find young people taking in the sun and dancing to the rhythm of the most recent Caribbean song.
